| For over twenty years, Arts Genesis has provided arts programming primarily in the Richey, Pueblo Gardens, Davidson and Ford Elementary schools in Tucson. Arts Genesis assures that students from low-income neighborhoods and diverse cultural backgrounds including those with roots in the Yaqui community have opportunities for in-depth expression in many
artforms.
Because Arts Genesis establishes long-term partnerships with schools, students are able to build upon their experiences from year to year. Projects are developed with enough contact time to allow students to delve deeply into the material. Lessons are geared to establishing skill in an arts discipline as well as linking to the rest of the academic curriculum. Follow-up activities are built into the program.
Many students have continued their education beyond high school and regularly return to the Arts Genesis as mentors and volunteers. The dedication of its leadership including Carol Kestler, the teaching artists, the school faculty, parents and students have contributed to the success of this organization.
