Arts Genesis History

Arts Genesis, Inc. (AGI) is a community-based arts education organization responsive to the social and cultural crises affecting the human family. The AGI concept began over twenty-five years ago when Carol S. Kestler volunteered as an artist at Richey Elementary School (now Richey Pre-K-8 School) in Old Pascua Yaqui Village, Tucson, AZ. In 2000-01, AGI's in-school arts education program, ArtsBuild, served over 1550 students at four Tucson Unified School District sites: Richey, Pueblo Gardens, Davidson and Ford Elementary Schools. A total audience of over 176,000 people saw performances, museum shows, murals, and media events that featured Arts Genesis' work.

Arts Genesis is a homegrown Tucson organization.

AGI has no national support group or affiliation other than its own membership which has grown from a few friends and associates of the founders to a network of members and contributors throughout the United States, including over 250 individuals, businesses, foundations and government agencies. AGI communicates and collaborates with individuals and programs in China, Great Britain, Mexico and Israel. Come join us!

AGI staff and artists are available for workshops and consultation…to help you build effective arts education programming that meets the needs of your school and community.
